Consultation: Development of an Indigenous Peoples Strategy for the Southeast Asia Gender Based Violence Prevention Platform
The Southeast Asia Gender Based Violence Prevention Platform is developing an Indigenous Peoples Strategy, to provide a practical framework for integrating Indigenous Peoples’ perspectives and needs into its regional programming.
The Strategy will set out guiding principles and approaches for engaging with Indigenous Peoples, and outline the unique considerations Indigenous Peoples face in relation to gender-based violence. The Strategy will build on the commitments already reflected in the Platform's Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) Plan, and will be an overarching and flexible strategy that reflects the diverse social, political, legal and cultural contexts across the 11 countries the Platform engages with.
We recognise that terminology and recognition vary across the region. In some countries, communities identify or are recognised as ethnic minorities rather than Indigenous Peoples, and the Strategy and these consultations are inclusive of both. The team will always follow the terms participants use for themselves.
